Eat in, take out, or take off? Vera's Burger Shack
I like trying new food and Vancouver has lots of great choices. But sometimes,...sometimes the proximity of a restaurant to something else may make me feel different about eating out.
On Vancouver's famous Davie Street, Vera's Burger Shack looks harmless and is probably a great place to pick up a quick bite to eat. "Eat in, Take out, You can't beat Vera's meat." The 8 restaurant chain has won awards for its hamburgers including "The Westender 's Best In The City Reader's Choice Awards for Best Hamburger" and "Georgia Straight's Golden Plates Reader's Choice Awards for Best Hamburger 2006".
Look at what's next door though: Vancouver's Urban Animal Hospital. (No, an 'urban animal' is not a cat wearing gangster clothes.) Imagine a hospital or, even worse, a morgue next to your favorite restaurant. You'd feel weird, wouldn't you?
I'd like to think that 'all dogs go to heaven'. But I'd rather not think about what happens to the remains,...the meat.
If being next to a dead dog storage center makes you feel strange, Vera's is located in several places throughout greater Vancouver. The chain gets mixture of good and bad reviews here.
Comments range from:
"This place is great. I eat there all the time, service is generally good, but the burgers and toppings are the best, great rings too."
to
"Mediocre burger on cold bun and possibly the worst chips I have ever eaten. In this case I only ate one and tossed the rest. Dark, oily, cold. Hey Vera dudes, change your oil, at least once a year! Staff when I went didn't seem to care."
A more detailed and better review is here.
Did you eat at Vera's? What do you think?
