Shopping in Vancouver Chinatown
For one of the most unique shopping experiences in Canada or the US, visit Vancouver's Chinatown district.

Shopping in Vancouver's Chinatown makes you feel like you're in China. In fact, a lot of the Chinatown shopping is geared towards the local population, one of North America's largest Chinese populations.
You can see in this picture that the labels on the foods are in Chinese only. This makes figuring out what you are buying a little bit challenging, to say the least. Confusing the foods can really mess up a recipe!

Gastown shopping: House of McLaren
Have you ever wanted to dress in full highland dress but didn't know how to get started? Well, Vancouver has an interesting shop that brings the style of Scotland to western Canada. The shop is called the House of McLaren and it's located in the Gastown district of Vancouver.

The shop imports all kinds of stuff from Scotland including clothing, jewelry, toys and candy. The clothing can be tailored to your exact measurements if you'd like. If you want to walk around Vancouver in a Scottish kilt, the House of McLaren will hook you up.
If you want to go all out on your Vancouver vacation, the House of McLaren offers a unique opportunity to dress up in full costume like a Scottish highlander. The store has costumes available for rent or you can pick out something nice and buy it.
Top Things to Do at Granville Island Public Market
The Granville Island Public Market is full of local vendors peddling good eats. All kinds of food from around the can be found here, giving the market an international atmosphere. If you desire it, Granville Island Public Market likely has it.
In one area of the market building, there are rows of food vendors with plenty of seating in between. Last time, I enjoyed savory and sweat crepes from a French vendor.
Strange Foods in Vancouver's Chinatown: What is it?
Have you ever seen these foods before?
Hint: These are from Vancouver's Chinatown, Canada's largest Chinatown and the second largest in North America after San Francisco. Visitors often spend the afternoon wandering around in the stores, visiting the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, and chosing from a variety of restaurants for lunch or dinner.
This is a "real Chinatown" as can be seen by the Chinese food signs in the local grocery shops. Half the fun is guessing what the foods are.
Take a look at these pictures to see the variety.
